Ready to give back? The Friends need your help!

While volunteering is not required of our members, we appreciate the many people who also donate their time to the Friends!

There are many ways to get involved with our work:

  • Take part in monthly meetings (in-person or via Zoom) to connect with other Friends, share your ideas, and receive the latest news

  • Take an active role in leadership by joining or assisting the Board

  • Help with programming, fundraising, membership, and more on one of our committees

  • Help with event set-up and take-down

  • Provide refreshments and other needs for library events

  • Help with the newsletter: write an article, share photos, edit articles, or assist with the mailing

  • Represent the Friends at community events like the Flea Market, Fourth of July, and Union Church Bazaar

  • Sell books at Second Hand Prose! (Scroll down to learn more)

  • Lend your expertise to positions on committees, the Friends Board, and more

We’re always looking for new ideas and energy!

Join the team at Vinalhaven’s bookstore, Second Hand Prose!

Ever wanted to work in a bookstore? Second Hand Prose, the bookstore operated by the Friends, is staffed by an incredible and generous team of volunteers.

Second Hand Prose volunteers help us

  • Provide customer service to our patrons

  • Receive and organize donations

  • Keep the bookstore welcoming and tidy

  • Share a love of books with every visitor!

To volunteer for a weekly three-hour shift or to be a substitute on our schedule, please contact Colleen at friendsofvhlibrary@gmail.com
