Joanne is a long-time summer resident who now resides in Vinalhaven through the summer and fall. Joanne and her family have been strong supporters and patrons of VPL for years, volunteering time and attending events on a regular basis. As a member relations professional working for a trade association based in Washington, D.C., Joanne brings strong communications and organizational skills to her role as Chair.

When not in Vinalhaven, Joanne resides in Maryland.

Susan is a retired school librarian and early childhood educator. She owned her own nursery school and then taught at the Vinalhaven School for 20 years, first in the library and then the Pre-K classroom. Susan is on the Vinalhaven Reads Committee and has enjoyed the projects they sponsor such as the Story Trail and the Little Free Library at the ferry wharf.

Susan joined Friends of the Library upon her retirement from teaching. She loves running Toddler Time at the library and writes the Conversation with a Reader column for the FOL newsletter. Susan enjoys walking, knitting, gardening, and of course reading!

Pam has always been equally fond of words and numbers. Most of her working life has been spent with numbers: first as a researcher analyzing data from Nasa’s Skylab experiments, then managing a computer systems group for a global financial services firm. After retiring from corporate life, she has helped seniors with their household finances, and is a former board member/treasurer of the Vinalhaven Land Trust. An avid reader since childhood, she loves everything about libraries. She has been involved with the wonderful Friends of the Vinalhaven Public Library since 2007, serving as secretary for ten years and now as Treasurer. Works and numbers – all good!

After nearly fifty years of summer, and sometimes winter, visiting from Davis, CA, Johanna finally decided to move to Vinalhaven full time in 2019. She is a reader and a knitter, it seemed only natural that she found her way to the Friends. A friend from her knitting group asked if she would like to volunteer at Second Hand Prose, the Friends of the Library bookstore. Eventually, she became the Assistant Treasurer. She loves her knitting group and enjoys working with her FOL colleagues.

For over thirty-five years, Barbara has come to Vinalhaven for long summer visits, weddings, reunions, Thanksgiving dinners and any other reason she could think of to justify a trip.  Recently, she retired from leadership and management consulting and was finally able to put down roots on Roberts Harbor. A lifelong learner and avid reader, she brings a diverse background and skill set to her role as Recording Secretary. After earning her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology, she worked as a professor and practitioner before becoming a Senior Director of Organization Development in the pharmaceutical industry.

Wendy is a retired special education teacher who now devotes her time to the care and feeling of her husband and his dog, their three children, six grandsons, and a new granddaughter. She’s had a lifelong love of reading, has volunteered in the Erie County Public Library system, and now serves on the board of trustees of the Alden Ewell Free Library, Alden, NY.

Wintering in NY and summering in Maine gives her access to two excellent library systems. Wendy is pleased to be involved with the dynamic group of people that make up the Friends of the Vinalhaven Public Library.
